Was with 1st Amtracs, H&S Company, Communications Platoon. Was originally in field message center at Danang and became radio operator on E-1 Amtrac. Made the move North from Danang to mouth of the Cat Viet river. was there until July of 1967.
Remember when we got hit hard by NVA artillery afterward i left for leave and a stint at Courthouse Bay.

New book by Rudy Molina called THE 13 UNSUNG HEROES, based on the battle of My Loc which took place on January 20th, 1968. It also honors the 13 Marines who were KIA on that same day.

My two brothers served in Vietnam. One brother, Tom Bailey, was with the 1st Amtrac battalion from January, 1968 to the summer of 1969. I have recently finished a painting of my brothers when they were able to get together in January, 1969 somewhere near An Hoa. I would love to share the image with the Marines that served in this unit. If someone would be so kind to let me know if this is possible and if so, just what would be the process. It has now been 50 years since this event took place and as an artist, I was very happy to honor not only the Marines who served with the Amgrunts, but all Marines who served in Nam.

I was at Cua Viet Sep68 till we left. My MOS was 0431/0441 and I was with the Logistics unit. I took people and food in the skimmer boat up and down the river to Dong Ha and all points in between. We ended up fitting the 2 boats with twin 35hp Merc's for a little more speed. The Sgt. Major got us a pair of water skis and I was water skiing on the Cua Viet. I will never forget the looks on the Vietnamese faces seeing that. I remember the battleship New Jersey when it came to counter the artillery being fired from North Vietnam in 69. The shells sounded light freight trains going through the air. Serving at Cua Viet has left lifelong memories with me. Semper Fi everyone.
