I served with the 1st amtrac bn at Cua viet. I painted the sign that says Camp Kistler in front of the COC bunker. I was the BN machinst that was by the steel Butler building. I was a Cpl and went on patrol twice a week by choice and operated skimmer boats for 30 days. I would like to hear from other amtracers. I was at Cua Viet from April of 68 until the unit was pulled back to Okinawa then I extended for 6 months to stay in country and made SGT at 3rd Div. Headquarters in Quang Tri where I served as the Division Maintence Chief

My father (Samuel William Kruse) served with the 1st Armored (76 mm gun?) Amtrack Batalion 1st Marine Div in the Korean war in 1951-1952. As he told me in his older years his unit was used as alltilery support for the 1st ROK Div at the Im Jin river. They had their amtracks taken away later and were issued M4A3E8 (76) Sherman tanks to do the same thing.I can't find any information on any of this action. I do have his military paperwork that shows his units, but nothing much else. Anyone know of a source on fighting in that area?

I learned of your site from a recon buddy, Lou Kern. I spent a lot of patrol days along the Cua Viet River and north of Ocean View in 1968. I have several AmTrac related photos, I could send you for your site if you're interested.
