I was with Brovo Co. 4th plt 1st Amtrac Blt and H&S co. from Oct.67thru Nov.68.
I spent lots of tine at both C-4 and Ocean View on the DMZ as well as running the river in a 20ft. fiberglass boat between Cua Viet and Dong Ha hauling mail and troops up and down river. Hell the Nave even named me "River Rat" The nose art supplied by the Sea Bees was a surfing rat on the bow until an RPG blew the boat apart Mar.68
Happy Birthday all you Jarheads and Semper Fi Ralph(gunny)Binder

I would like to say that i have lots of great memories from my year and a half in 2nd AA Bn Camp LeJeune...Let me say court house bay is not one of them but some have taken place there. All the times i got drunk. All my time on EPD and restriction. My marriage that started escalated and failed in only 4 months. Might sound dumb but it's alot for a 20 year old guy to handle. I thought i grew up way too fast but Now i have great work ethic and love nothing more then to bust my ass at work. THank you SSGt Burtchill and GYST Cornell I dunno if you hate me or not but your a damn good leader

For Ray Byers
I was in Cua viet in 1967 and keep a diary. I made an entry on Oct. 27, 1967 that read "A man was killed on one or patrols last night. Although he is being buried with honors I have heard from other people on the patrol that he was very possibly killed by one of our own men by accident". I think this may have been the Kovic incident.

For BILL PICKRELL
I was in viet nam 67/68 and was at cua viet with h&s co. 1st am trac bn. I built a bunker with a corpsman by the name of Fields. Do you remember? or know how to get in touch with him? He was one of the few people I got to know. I thought he was a hell of a guy and corpsman and would like to find him. I went on the return to Viet Nam tour in March and it was quite an experience. Glad you made it back to the world.

I was in DaNang for awhile before going to Cau Viet. I was there from December 1966 to January 1968. I was with the 1st. Amtrac Batt. LVT platoon H&S company. Some of the guys I was with were Jack Norris, Dave French, Sgt. Smithy and a guy named Pudvay. Pudvay got hit by a AK47 on the tractor he was driving on a river patrol. He got shot in the -ss. Another time we where hauling fuel to the DMZ and when we were refueling are tractor blew up, but luckly no one got hurt. Love to hear from anyone that was there. Thanks.

Served at Camp Pendleton Del Mar 1968-1969. Ordered (Corporal) to Viet Nam December 1969 (third set of Viet Nam orders...try taking advanced pay and 20 days leave (twice) and then have to live on half base pay for next six months in order to repay Uncle Sam). Landed in Okinawa for refueling and found out I was staying on the Rock
(Schwab) for next 13 months. Never made it to the Nam. Promoted to Sergeant on Okinawa. Returned to the Promised Land in January 1971. Purchased a 1969 Dodge Charger on leave in Iowa and upon returning to Camp Pendleton for last year of duty I was involved in a head-on collision on I-5 (not my fault) in Santa Anna. Spent next six months at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton (remember 7.6 earthquake!). Retired from Marine Corps for disability and enjoy the Space "A" Air Force bennies and of course the Hale Koa military resort in Hawaii.
My motto "Once A Marine-Never Again" can really piss a fellow Marine off! Rather be pissed off then pissed on!
