I was an engineer assigned to h &s co. 1st tracks in late '68 / early 69. I used to backblade the roads and fill the showers early in the morning, then work on the equipment the rest of the day. At night there was either guard post, listening post, ambush and about once a week, a night off. We didn't have much contact in those days: just the occassional rockets. Most of the guys I met, rotated shortly after; Scruggs, Tree, Dick Bostick {two tours}, Fisher {took me under his wing}, Franks {a gung ho warrior)and my closest bud Mike Ferguson. Mike and I worked together on Okinawa on some civic action program, filling in a valley between two mountains but our dozers crapped out. I've Thought about you many times over the years Mike but only recently became computer litertate; hope your out there and doing well.Fish, I think that's you up in Alaska, I'll see if your still there. I never knew the whole history of our outfit nor how priveleged I was to be associated with it. |
