We served with USMC 1st ALVT next to 1st tanks outside Danang 1n '67 and '68. The LVTH6 had a 105 mounted on the top and could support direct and indirect fire as a surveyed artillery battery. During TET of 68 my company was with the ROK Marines south of Da Nang close to the coast. I would like to hear from any Marines that served with ALVT as we only had 18 vehicles in country. We received the Viet Nam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. Semper Fi

Thank you to all those great Marines who served with my brother and after all these years still carry his memory. I was both touched and honored to meet & talk to all of you. Most people will never know the meaning of camaraderie, of brotherhood born in battle, of life long fellowship between men who served in combat. You are all the personification of these values and you are all still and will always remain “THE PROUD THE FEW…”

My husband's name was Robert Michael Smith
He served from 5/67 to 6/68 approx. His unit was 196th 3/21 A company attached to E company. I have a picture of two tanks that was developed 5/68 and someone said they thought it could be Nhi Ha and someone else said they could not be sure. I have a picture that could be the BTOC and about 4 pictures of LST's on a river developed 5/68 that I would like someone who is willing to take a look at them and tell me what they think. They are a little dark but I would very much like to know what those pictures are of
from someone who would know I am awaiting my husband's records from the military and I don't know if that will help with this or not I also have more pictures that go with these that seem to be a group of pictures taken at the same time..With a grateful heart Mrs. Smith

I served with 1st LVTS, 3rd Mar Div. H&S Co in the Motor "T" sect. I have many vivd memories. Our section was headed by Lt. Richard Devers and GySgt. Gibner.I remember most of the guys in our group, including Sgt James L Kistler, but one guy stands out amoung all of them L/cpl William F. Mc Carthy. "Mac" and I were sworn in together in "66" and I served with him just about everday. I was the last guy he talked to that fateful day 16 Dec. when he gave his life, and I almost lost mine. I left Cau Viet a few days later accompanying him home as a "special escort" at the request of the family. We laid him to rest in Oak Grove Cemetry, Medford Mass. 2 Jan 68, about a mile where I presently reside. Semper Fi/ God Bless. Len S.
