Message to Mathew Ganley...
You may gain additional insight as the particular details of 2nLt Edward Jory's death in combat against the North Vietnamese Army by contacting our fabulous Battalion Historian - Hugh Connelly!
Hugh was a Radioman in Alpha Company and was with the 1st Platoon, Alpha Company in that combat engagement and has told me some of his personal memories of that day and what he witnessed...
Good luck!

Hello all. Maybe I can be of some help with your sword. I had been in the Corps about 3 1/2 years when I heard Ed Jory was assigned to another platoon in 1st Tracs. I did my best to go see him, however on the day he was killed was the day we went out on Patrol. He was 30 yrs old. When I got back here to Albuquerque, I met with his father who was the President of one of the biggest banks here in Albuquerque. I sat with him and told him he suffered no pain and was a brave platoon leader.
I went to High school myself with his younger brother Hoot Jory. I know where he is but his answering machine is always on and does not answer the phone. I can call him and leave a message, as yet I have not done that as he himself was anti-war. I am not sure as to how he would re-act, but I can give it a try. At worst it can be boxed up and sent to his only brother.
