Chapter 12 of our new book—"Gung Ho: The Corps Most Progressive Tradition," chronicles the Amtrac Platoon's considerable contribution to the defense of Con Thien in May 1967. It's a great read; you would enjoy it. We are a nonprofit dedicated to fewer casualties through better squad tactics.

Greetings Marines. I'm trying to get some background info on my father whom I'd been estranged from over the last 25 yrs.His name is Jerry Sans, from Lorain Ohio. All I know is his MOS and rank. 1833 Amtrac Crew and LCpl and served from 59-63. He passed away this August after a series of strokes and heart attacks and I'm trying to piece together his service records. If anyone knew him or served with him, I'd love to know more about your experiences and where you served. Thank you and Semper Fi.

I was with Amtracs (H&S) six miles south of DaNang from 10/65 - 10/66. Came over as casual by ship (USS General William Mitchell) with 3500 other Marines, think they were 3/5 and got off at Okinawa for Ranger training. We disembarked the Mitchell and boarded the USS Navarone for the last six days and got off in Danang.

My dad was in the 3/9 Marines. I was going through his photos and found a couple hundred good quality slides of Route 9, Dong Ha, Camp Carroll, and more. If you would like digital copies of these photos, let me know. I'm ordering a slide to digital converter and will post them online.
