I am not a member of your site, but I believe my father would like to be. I was wondering if anyone remembers him. His name is Buckly Lynn Stout. I believe he would have been a SGT. @ the time. His memory isn't as good anymore, but he says he was in Cua Viet in April '67- Jan '68 w/ 1st Amtrac, H&S Co. but I don't know which Platoon. If any one has any info please e-mail me @ fllmtljkt@hotmail.com. I regret that I never became a MARINE and followed in my Dad's footsteps. But Having one for a Father I feel I have a heart of one.
Awesome site. I'm going to show my son Where his Grandpa, and other Brave AMGRUNTS served their country.

Once again, 20 January has come and the time for me to post my annual remembrance. Thanks to all Amgrunts and Maj. Bob Throm, the memory of those who perished on 20 January 1968 will live on in perpetuity. Each day, I give thanks to be alive and say a prayer for those who gave it all and for their families, so that the wounds may heal and some day understand that the sacrifices made that day, somehow were for the greater good. Rest in peace my Brothers and know well that you will never be forgotten. Hugh, Ted, Ken, Guy, Martin, Mike, Al, Dan (and any I may have forgotten)you are the best friends a man could ever wish for and have. HAND SALUTE.

Wanted to say "hi." I was a member of 1st Amtracs at Cua Viet for about a week in late 1967. I came from 3d Anti-Tanks (Ontos) when it was disbanded. Was just settling in (H&S Company) when I got orders to a CAC unit. At the time 1st Amtracs was running company-size patrols and operations up nearly to the DMZ.
I remember standing bunker watch one night at Cua Viet behind a .30 Browning air-cooled MG,of all things, and in the morning watching a big old USN vessel (the Iowa?) blasting its big guns at some target on shore.
A long time ago. Semper Fi to all you amtrackers.

Wish to hear from anyone who was on LST-1082, U.S.S. Pitkin County. Loaded LVT'S and crews at Seal Beach California. About a month traveling to Da Nang. Unloaded November 1966. Rainy and very muddy. Unloaded LVT"S up river real close to two bridges that were close together, one was destroyed. Just prior to going into Da Nang Harbor the Marine Colonel and The Ships Captain ordered a cook out on the main deck (new york strips)! On our way across we had a smoker. Does anyone remember?
