Thank you so much for including the article on the WWII Amtracs. My father-in-law was a Company "A" Commander of the 2nd Amphibian Tractor Bn,in 1942-43. I have been making a "Memory Book" for my son, his grandson, and this is the best site I have seen on Amtracs. I truly appreciate your including this article. Blessings to you! Valerie Smithwick

YatYas, Just Want to let us know that the story about Charlie Manson and his dirty deeds starting in the city of Amboy near the stumps is FALSE. This nut case grew up in Amboy NJ. So the next we are all near that training area were we can see Amboy tell the truth and tell the boots that this is were Trackers first get laid.

I was in Baker LVTs, 1st Mar Div in Korea, then in Able LVTs, still in 1st Mar Div when the division came home. Stateside we were 3rd Amtracs, in Korea we were 1st Amtracs. So while I served in the 2 different battalions I was always in the 1st Division. Just to keep the record straight. Semper Fi!

I have always told my wife about being a tracer, and tonight we found this website and she got to see some of the Amtracs that I worked on when I was in Marines. I think she is a little jealous when I kept calling them my baby! I was in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th Marine Division and wrecker crew chief. I was in Nam in 69 and 70. If anyone remembers me, give me an email. I had a flag on my
R1 that had cross wrenches and a skivie sign. That meant if I can't fix it then F**k it! Thanks for the walk down memory lane. Sgt. Dearl Taylor

Funny thing. There's lots of us amtrackers out here. super!
I've got scars on my shins to this day from the chips flying of the metal of the tracks and sledge, hammers.
Oh well.

I recently went to Vietnam on a humanitarian medical trip with Vets With a Mission. We treated over 1,500 civilians in Dong Ha. I went from Dong Ha, up the Cua Viet river to the old site of 1st tracs. The concrete slabs where the LSTs docked are still there.
I roamed around the Camp Kistler site and looked around the location of the E-1 bunker to see if I could find a case of rifles we buried 39 years ago!
I have a few pictures I'll be glad to share.
