Hello, Its been a long time since I first drove an AmTrac. I was seventeen and my high school coach enlisted many of us while we were still is high school. That was in 1950 before the North Koreans cross the 38th parallel.
The unit which I joined was the 19th Bat. reserve in Tampa Florida. I wondered if there is any members of that group still around.

Help. Was this unit, the 1st AmTrac Bn, referred to as the 1st Armored Amphibian Bn, Fleet Marine Force, during the Korean War? I am researching my late father-in-law's service record which states that he departed San Diego, 18 Aug 1950 for Kobe, Japan on orders from the 1st Armored Amphibian Bn, FMF. I could also use help with his MOS, 1800. What are the qualifications for an 1800 MOS? Basic AmTrac Training? Any help with the History of the 1st Armored Amphibian Bn would be deeply appreciated. Thank you.

Just returned to the Guestbook for another look. I was in Comm. with A Co. May '65 in Chu Lai, then up in Danang by Hill 327 for awhile, then went back to Chu Lai, and back to Danang in '66. I would like to hear from anyone from A Co.; also if anyone remembers Eddie from Kentucky who was killed in a car crash in 1966 after we all rotated home. He went back to 2nd Amtracs; I went to 10th Marines. Some of the guys from 2nd Amtracs came over to 10th Marines to let me know about Eddie. Don't remember his last name- lots of dim memories of names, but lots of great memories of being in Tracks. Would love to reconnect with any of the Marines that I served with in 'Nam. Also for any info on a Marine whose last name was Shehee (I think) in our Comm section in Chu Lai. Semper Fi!

Copied your maps of Dia Do area. I was there in April & May 1968 in USMC as radio operator 2nd platoon Fox Company 2/4. I rode on / in your tracks several times. I remember the day when one of your tracks with a 75mm gun save our bacon during a fight with the NVA right on the beach at the DMZ. Our dam M-16s were all jambed with sand after we had spent the night sleeping in the rain on the dunes. We rode back to where were based at C4 in the sand dunes a couple of clicks south of the DMZ. Your tracks ran in the water just on the edge of the beach where any mines would be revieled by the wave action on the sand.
